Spring Term 2018

Chance To Shine Cricket

We were fortunate to have Chance to Shine Cricket coaches come into school to share some exciting early years cricket activities with Class 1. The children enjoyed playing with various equipment and learnt new skills along the way.

Pipers Vale Gymnastics Visit

The whole of KS1 visited Pipers Vale gymnastics Centre for an action packed morning in February.  This was  a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience using large gymnastics apparatus in a safe and fun environment.

Children had a go at jumping into foam pits, walking on high beams and swinging on bars. Everyone had an enjoyable morning including the accompanying adults!

Sports Competitions

U9 Dodgeball Festival

On Tuesday 16th January Henley’s U9 Dodgeball Team played in the schools competition at Inspire Suffolk.  There were 14 schools entered with 5 teams in our group. Matches were made up of 3 games and Henley faced Kyson in the first match.  The team managed to get all players out in the first 3 games. Finn, Oscar and Freya made some brilliant catches to help secure the wins. Feeling confident we went into the match with determination and once again won all 3 games all out. James was the star of this match making 5 comfortable catches throughout.  The next match against Cedarwood proved tricky and Henley played more of a defensive style of play. This resulted in us losing 2 out of the 3 matches. With spirits still high, however, Henley went into the final match confidently and won all of the 3 games with an excellent team effort. This proved to be a superb afternoon winning 10 of the 12 games played with outstanding team play.

U11 Basketball Competition

The U11 Basketball team played in the Westbourne Partnership Schools Competition at Inspire Suffolk on Tuesday 6thFebruary.  There were 7 schools entered in our group and we would play each team once. Henley faced Kersey in our first match and we played some solid court play. McKenzie scored an early basket but we lost the match 4-2. Still determined we played Sproughton and gelled well. Sam scored 2 baskets and Helen and Archie defended well with some excellent blocks. The match ended in a 4-4 draw. In the matches against Gusford and St Pancras our court play was good but we struggled with shooting and lost 6-0 and 14-2.  Our willpower showed through against Bramford with Raquel scoring an early goal and we went on to win the match 3-2.  We went out on a high winning against Whitehouse 4-2 and was placed 6th overall. The team had a very enjoyable afternoon and should be proud of their team effort.

U9 Football Festival Report

The U9 Boys Football Team travelled to Inspire Suffolk to take part in the Ipswich Schools Football Festival.  There were 23 teams competing and Henley had 6 schools in their group.

Henley faced Bealings in the first match and got off to a great start.  Play on the pitch was evenly matched and ended in a 0-0 result.  In the second match Henley started strong against Ranelagh and James secured a win 2-0 win for us with 2 spectacular goals.  We were then against Britannia in the next match winning 1-0 and the team worked hard together with Oliver passing to James leading to another excellent goal.  With just a minute to go Britannia scored to finish the match with a 2-1 win.  Next we faced a strong Sidegate team. This match saw Henley being awarded a penalty and Oscar hitting the bar and Harry making 4 excellent saves under pressure.  The end result was a 0-0 draw.

The final match was against Hadleigh and Henley seemed to lose a little momentum and conceded 2 goals.  Unable to score the end result was a 2-0 win to Hadleigh.  This was a fantastic afternoon of football for the team and spectators.

The Henley U9 Football Team did themselves proud and ended the afternoon runners-up of their group.
